The most common way to customize a model kit is usually painting it, both details on specific parts or a paintjob that covers the whole model. Usually, the first time a modeler embarks in this journey they do not want nor can invest into an airbrush and so they start to learn how to paint with brushes. This is why it's essential to know what to look for when buying brushes.

First, we need to take into account the material it's made with and if it's adequate for our paint

• Synthethic brushes are cheaper and can be used with nearly all kinds of painting, even those that are harsher on brushes such as lacquer paint.
• Natural brushes, commonly known as Kolinsky or Kolinsky Sable are made with natural hair and are therefore more fragile, expensive and not recommended when painting with aggressive paints. They are completely worth investing in since they offer precision without equal as long as we take care of them.

Furthermore, depending on the technique we use and the size of the scale model, we also need to ensure that the size of its tip is adequate.
