The VF-22S Sturmvogel II is the production version of the YF-21 that Guld Goa Bowman flew in Macross Plus. After Project Super Nova, General Galaxy refined the losing prototype into a limited-run ace-only fighter, and Maximilian Jenius took one as his personal ride when he became captain of the Battle 7 fleet in Macross 7 (1994). Max is the same ace who flew in the original SDF Macross decades earlier, now in a different era and a very different jet. His deep green color scheme is one of the most recognizable paint jobs in the franchise.
This is the sixth release in Bandai's HG Macross line. It shares DNA with the YF-21 Guld kit that came earlier in the lineup, reworked with the production model's cleaner silhouette, refined details, and Max's green-on-green color layout. The Shortcut Change three-mode system carries over for a stable build in Battroid, Gerwalk, and Fighter configurations. If you already have the YF-21 Guld kit on the shelf, this VF-22S is the natural pair: the prototype and its production descendant, both in the same scale and the same engineering.
Articulation follows the YF-21's lead. The head sits on a movable neck axis with ball joints for expressive tilts, the shoulders articulate through both the duct parts and the joint for wide arm range, and the chest has multi-axis pivot for real bending in all directions. You get gun pods, landing gear, Fighter mode conversion parts, hand parts, and joint sets. Color separation on the layered greens is surprisingly clean off the runners, and sticker reliance stays light compared to the earlier Macross Plus kits in the line.
