The MKS series sits at the top of DSPIAE's marker range and does one thing specifically: true chrome-level metallic finishes in a marker format. Where the MKA series covers a wide chromatic spread of super metallics, the MKS narrows its focus to three finishes that no standard metallic marker can convincingly replicate. MKS-01 Chrome Silver, MKS-02 Titanium Gold, and MKS-03 Champagne Gold are each formulated to produce a mirror-like, reflective quality that reads as chrome rather than simply metallic.

The construction follows the same dual nylon tip format as the MKA: a 0.5mm point tip and a 2.0mm wedge tip stored inside the cap, interchangeable with a paper tissue and a firm pull. The self-levelling formula does the technical work of evening out the chrome particles in a single smooth pass, which is the key to achieving a consistent mirror surface rather than a streaky one. Finer metallic particles, better suspension, and a self-levelling formula is exactly what separates a proper chrome finish marker from a standard metallic hobby marker, and you can see the difference on the part.

These three colors cover the finishes builders reach for on thruster bells, vernier nozzles, weapon blade edges, cockpit frame details, and any surface on a Gunpla or mecha model kit where you want the material to read as actual metal rather than painted plastic. Chrome Silver is the most versatile and the one most builders reach for first; Titanium Gold gives you a warm, slightly yellow-tinted chrome that reads as a different metal alloy; Champagne Gold sits between the two with a softer, more muted warmth. Together they cover the premium chrome palette for any kit that needs it.

The paint inside each MKS marker can be extracted and diluted at a 1:0.5 ratio with water for use in an airbrush. Chrome Silver specifically can be used in the airbrush undiluted for maximum mirror effect. Correct any overruns with the DSPIAE Universal Eraser Pen while still fresh, then seal with a gloss top coat to protect and enhance the chrome finish.

How to Use

Surface cleanliness is even more critical with chrome finishes than with standard metallics: any grease, fingerprint, or dust particle will show through a reflective surface, so wipe the part down thoroughly before you do anything else. Shake the marker well, prime the nylon tip on a scrap piece, then apply in long even strokes moving in a single direction without cross-painting. Let the self-levelling formula do its job and don't overwork the surface. Thin layers build a more consistent chrome effect than one heavy pass. The 0.5mm point tip handles tight detail work; the 2.0mm wedge covers broader areas. Swap between them by wrapping the installed tip in a paper tissue, pulling it out, and inserting the other from inside the cap.

For the advanced approach, lightly sand the area with 1000 to 2000 grit and clean all dust off completely before applying. A prepped surface gives the chrome particles better mechanical grip and produces a more consistent mirror finish. It is a longer process that requires more layers, but some builders enjoy working that way for the control it gives over the final result. To use in an airbrush, extract the paint and dilute at 1:0.5 with water. Chrome Silver (MKS-01) can go in undiluted for maximum mirror effect. Rinse airbrush equipment with water after use. Correct overruns with the DSPIAE Universal Eraser Pen. Seal with a gloss top coat only, as semi-gloss or flat will visibly compromise the chrome quality.
