The YF-21 is Guld Goa Bowman's ride in Macross Plus (1994), the rival prototype that went wing-to-wing with Isamu's YF-19 during Project Super Nova's brutal test program. Designed by General Galaxy, it runs on a Brain Direct Image System that reads the pilot's thoughts in real time. Guld, a human and Zentradi hybrid, was chosen to fly it for exactly that reason. Variable-geometry wings, organic curves, and an unnerving cockpit layout give the YF-21 a very different personality from its competitor. When Guld hits the Limiter Release, it becomes the most dangerous jet in the show.
This is the fourth kit in Bandai's HG Macross line, following the YF-19, Alto's YF-29, and Max's YF-29 Full Set Pack. The Shortcut Change three-mode system carries over: parts swap between Battroid, Gerwalk, and Fighter for a stable build in every configuration. What makes this one stand out is the dedicated Limiter Release mode reproduction, the characteristic silhouette the YF-21 takes when Guld unlocks its performance ceiling. Joint parts are included for displaying that mode on an action base (sold separately).
Articulation is built around the quirks of the design. The head sits on a movable neck axis with ball joints for expressive tilts, the shoulders articulate through both the duct parts and the joint for wide arm range, and the chest has multi-axis pivot for real bending in all directions. The polarized canopy opens and closes, and you get effect parts for the Pinpoint Barrier Punch along with twin gun pods (including stored-position variants), landing gear, and Fighter mode conversion parts. Color separation holds up well; sticker reliance is minimal compared to earlier kits in the line.
